Pixar’s “Hoppers” maintained its position at the top of the box office, earning $28.5 million in its second weekend. This performance follows a $45.3 million debut. Colleen Hoover’s novel adaptation, “Reminders of Him,” also showed strength, contributing to the author’s ongoing success in film.

The Walt Disney Co.’s “Hoppers” experienced a modest 37% decline in its second weekend, a positive sign for an animated film aiming for sustained audience engagement through March. The original Pixar film, which centers on a young woman who transforms into a beaver to defend a pond from development, has garnered positive reviews, holding a 94% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an “A” CinemaScore from audiences.
While many recent Pixar sequels, such as “Inside Out 2” ($1.7 billion worldwide), achieved blockbuster status upon release, original films from the studio have recently required more time to gain traction. For instance, “Elemental” launched with a lower-than-expected $29.6 million in 2023 but ultimately grossed $496.4 million globally.
“Hoppers,” which has accumulated $164.7 million worldwide to date, is off to a solid start. It faced minimal new competition this weekend. However, the upcoming Amazon MGM sci-fi adventure “Project Hail Mary” is set to occupy IMAX screens soon, potentially competing for family moviegoers.
‘Reminders of Him’ Debuts Strong
Universal’s “Reminders of Him” secured second place with a better-than-anticipated $18.3 million. The film stars Maika Monroe as a woman striving to rebuild her life after incarceration. This marks the third Colleen Hoover adaptation to reach the big screen, following “It Ends With Us” ($351 million worldwide for Sony) in 2024 and “Regretting You” ($91 million for Paramount) in 2025.
Despite receiving mixed reviews (56% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes) and a “B” CinemaScore, “Reminders of Him,” produced with a budget of approximately $25 million, extends the bestselling author’s popularity among moviegoers. This film is also the first to feature a screenplay co-written by Hoover herself.
Micro-Budget Horror Finds Audience
A24’s micro-budget horror film, “Undertone,” opened to $9.3 million. Written and directed by Ian Tuason, the film has been praised for its innovative use of sound design within a single-setting narrative about a paranormal podcaster (Nina Kiri) caring for her ailing mother. The film’s success, with a budget of only $500,000, positions it as a notable entry for the indie studio, drawing comparisons to Ari Aster’s “Hereditary” (2018).
‘The Bride!’ Falters in Second Weekend
Warner Bros.’s “The Bride!” experienced a significant drop in its second weekend, falling 70% to earn just $2.1 million. The Maggie Gyllenhaal-directed film, a reimagining of “The Bride of Frankenstein,” had a production cost of approximately $80-90 million and has grossed only $11.3 million domestically to date.
The weekend leading up to the Academy Awards is typically a slower period for theaters, with industry focus shifting to the upcoming awards ceremony. Nevertheless, the moderate successes of “Hoppers,” “Reminders of Him,” and “Undertone” contributed to an overall increase in moviegoing activity ahead of Hollywood’s biggest night.
